In recent days, the Solana network has grappled with congestion issues, leading to noticeable delays in transaction processing and a large number of transactions being dropped.
The network congestion primarily stems from a surge in spam transactions, where bots strive to give priority to their actions over regular users. This problem worsens due to a significant rise in transactions linked to newly launched memecoins, causing an unprecedented demand for block space and hindering access for numerous users.
Strategies to combat congestion
In reaction to these obstacles, the Solana development team is crafting viable solutions, with software patches currently in progress. However, as co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko mentioned, these fixes will require some time.
“The Solana network is facing another rigorous test with a significant surge in traffic. Bug fixes will be implemented over the coming week, and improvements can be expected,” remarked Austin Federa, strategy lead at Solana Foundation.
There are many strategies to fix this issue amongst which is the scheduled release of the 1.18 update slated for April. This update will bring improvements aimed at making transaction scheduling more deterministic, with the goal of streamlining processing and alleviating bottlenecks.
